Playing with the fabulous Entwined Butterflies stencil from Visible Image today. It looks quite delicate but it is strong enough to hold its own on a card with just a little ink and a sentiment.
To begin I cut a 6" square of 300gsm smooth white card, sprayed the back of the Entwined Butterflies stencil with stencil adhesive and left it for a couple of minutes.
Then fixed it to the front of the card and pressed down to fix all of the stencil to the white card.
I used a 0.2 pt black archival fine liner pen to draw around all of the gaps in the stencil. It takes a little while but it is worth the effort. I rotated the stencil/card around on as I worked.
Picked 3 waterbased inks - Ocean Blue, Fuchsia and Lemon Tonic from the Spectrum Harmony range. Started with the yellow ink,in circular motions, applied ink in about 4 or 5 patches. Then used the pink to fill in some of the gaps, blending over some of the yellow but leaving white gaps for the blue ink.
Filled in the white patches with the blue ink, blending a little with the yellow and pink but avoiding any orangey bits so it doesn't turn brown.
Used a fan brush to flick some water over, patted with a paper towel and dried with a heat tool.
I trimmed the inked card leaving about 1/16" white border, attached it to black card leaving a 1/4" border and then onto a 7" x 7" white card blank using pva glue.
Then I stuck the stencil over a strip of black card and used a white gel pen to draw around the stencil.Tip - place the black strip on your coloured card, line up the stencil with the inked butterflies and the black strip will stick to the stencil.
Trimmed the strip then filled in with white acrylic ink - PH Martin's Bleed proof white ink.
Mounted the strip onto white card leaving a 1/16" border at the sides.
Chose one of the sentiments from Visible Image Just be Happy set that would fit nicely, stamped onto black card with pigment ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
Fixed the sentiment and black panel into place with double sided foam pads and added a couple of black gems to the top right hand side.
Quite liked it but thought it needed an extra something so inked another butterfly through the stencil, cut out with scissors and attached it with 3d glue gel.
I hope you have enjoyed this project, thanks for stopping by,
