This week's blog post is all about me lol, I've had a tough week and my mind is working overtime. Crafting keep me grounded.
I've used a couple of Visible Image stencils on this card - Skull Shadow and Lava, the big butterfly is one I made a couple of weeks ago but didn't use and the fab sentiment is one from Lost For Words written by Helen Alexander.
Cut a piece of heavy white cardstock (300gm) to 6 7/8" by 6 7/8" (17.5 cm x 17.5cm).
Draw through the skull stencil onto copier paper using a pencil and cut out around the edge to make a paper mask. Spray the back with stencil spray or a little low tack tape folded over itself and put to one side.
Tip a little black gesso into an old tin and stipple over the middle of the skull and just around the edge with an almost dry brush. Tap off the excess paint onto your craft mat.
Remove the stencil and draw in the edges of the teeth and the top of the skull with a pencil. Put your stencil into water with a little dish soap to soak.
Use a bit of kitchen sponge to cover the card with black gesso, use a fine paint brush to do around the teeth and the top of the skull.
Use a heat gun to dry your card then cover the skull with the paper mask you made earlier.
Position the Visible Image Lava stencil over the top right of the card and tape in place with a little low tack tape. Apply some holographic or glitter paste using a spatula, avoid going up to the edges of the stencil and having any straight lines.
Gently remove the stencil and position over the bottom left and apply more paste. Then stencil over the gaps. It doesn't matter if the blobs merge as it will blend in with the design. You could leave your card to dry between stencilling but don't allow the paste to dry on your stencil. Better to risk a bit of smudging - it all adds texture 😀.
Gently peel off the paper mask, I found using a pokey tool on the edges helped get it up.
Leave your card to dry - this may take a few hours. You could speed things up with a heat gun but be gentle as the extreme heat may make the paste bubble and crack.
Tip some shimmer shaker pigment onto your craft mat and add a drop of water to make liquid paint.I used Bright Sunshine, Tangy Tangerine and Raspberry Rose Shimmer Shakers from Cosmic Shimmer. Have fun colouring your butterfly with these bright shimmery paints...
Stamp one of the sentiments from the Visible Image "You Got This" with black versafine onto white card and clear heat emboss as before. Cut out and fix it to black card matt with a 1/8" border.
Matt and layer your painted card onto white card with a 1/16" border, onto black card with a 3/16" border and then onto an 8" x 8" white card blank.
When your skull card is dry use the Cosmic Shimmer iridescent blue and green watercolours on the skull - leave the teeth white - I painted them orange and had to repaint them white later on. You could paint just one of the teeth gold, like a pirate 😎 .
Matt and layer your painted card onto white card with a 1/16" border, onto black card with a 3/16" border and then onto an 8" x 8" white card blank.
Mould your dry butterfly between your fingers to lift the wings and fix to the skull using 3d glue gel.
Fix your sentiment to the bottom right of your card using 3d glue gel or foam tape.
I added some white dots to the wings and some doodling around the sentiment with an orange pen to finish it. You could use glossy accents on your skull's white teeth to finish them off too.
Here is my completed piece.
I hope you have enjoyed this project and thanks for stopping by 💖,
